Fairford 2009

Hetgeen me bijna liet omvallen.

Leuke momenten:
"So ? Let them come stand here too, I'm standing fine here."
"But you're standing in the way of the stands. They can't see..."
"So ?"
"Please ma'am, take your children to the side then."
"No. We're fine here."
"Hey ! You can't do that !"
"So ? I'm standing fine here."

Royal International Airforce Tattoo @ Fairford is passed.
A good event, with ups and downs.
The big positive point, The Flight of the Last Vulcan.
The Red Arrows still do a great display of aeronautical splendor. When these guys fly formation it's like they are glued together on a big glass plate.
The Italian Tricolores are also a good display team, and it takes good spotters to see the tiny differences in quality compared to the Red Arrows.
Never tought a Chinook could that kind of manoevers. If it would have been carriyng troops, they would have been blended if you ask me.
The droning of 4 Rolls Roys Merlin engines is another memorable moment. I do love those big planes. (it's an Avro Lancaster) Especialy when 2 Spitfires are having fun too at the same time.
The Boeing Stearman wingwalking flying Team Guinot was old school, almost barnstorming fun. But I was a bit weary of the weather, variable winds and showers, mingled with bright sunny moments.
The modern jet fighters have 1 thing in common. They are totaly overwhelming loud. But you feel the raw power and gives you a sence of awe.
But compared to most other displayes those didn't add much for me. Low level, high speed pass overs, some demonstrations of the manoevrability and the tarmac drying capacity was about the same for all those aircraft.
I know, this short report does a lot of injustice to the other aircraft and crews, but writing it all would take me more days than the event was long. You tube is already loaded with good, and less good clips of the aircraft. I would say, have fun searching.

The robots.
Our feathers did a great job, with only 2 tiny issues to solve. Hannibalito III lost its wheely spring zit, and Hannibalito I had a moment of bungee entanglement- and still winning that melee.
The newbuild heavy Bullfrog Breed... that's back to the drawingboard. The new weapon didn't function as designed, the drivetrain to slow and the Hardox steel armor didn't perform like it should.
All in all except for the wet weather on sunday and the damaged heavy it was a well spend 3 days.
Now a bit of relaxing and then back to the grind.
